Trigger Warning: This post will be dealing with very heavy and traumatic topics such as suicide and racism. Proceed with caution.
As someone with the bio that states they are "ENHYPEN's D1 glazer" on their spam TikTok, I feel it would be wrong of me not to talk about what's happening in the fandom right now.
A Japanese content creator by the name of Mina, unfortunately, lost her life due to the bullying and harassment she faced at the hands of ENGENEs, ENHYPEN stans. Her last moments are immortalized on the live she was on, where fans were in her comments telling her to stop victimizing herself and to end her life. And after, some people, some being big creators, were booing her for being on live crying and begging people to stop being mean to her.
What could have possibly led to all of this happening? The answer would be flowers. The beautiful girl lost her life over a bouquet of flowers. Mina was a Sunki stan, the ship name for the relationship between Sunoo and Ni-ki, and when she would go to shows, she would bring a bouquet of flowers for them to see and appreciate them and to have a cute moment.
At her last show, she gave a bouquet, and when Sunoo received it, she tried telling him that it was for Ni-ki. Sunoo tried bringing them to Ni-ki but eventually gave them back to Mina. Later, Ni-ki then went on live saying that the members feel a little discouraged when people come to shows and aren't there to have fun but to get a moment on video, and they'd like it if fans enjoyed the concert too - which was a fair and very straightforward message that they have been saying for the span of their career.
This, however, prompted hateful and nasty people who disguise themselves as fans to go to Mina and call her names, say she's a terrible and rude person, and spread the lie that she was yelling at Sunoo and treating him like an errand boy to get her moment. No matter how she tried to defend herself, the "fans" used Ni-ki's words as a way to "defend Sunoo's honor" and this led to people telling her to end her life, saying she needs to stop being a victim, and this came to an end when Mina took her own life on a live a few nights ago after going on live to beg people to leave her alone.
Even after Mina's death, some "people" are saying she was playing the victim, and she's still alive and playing dead to gain sympathy. And I honestly think that the lack of humanity that some "people" in this fandom have is pathetic and shameful.
Unfortunately, this fandom has a history of being evil and mean-spirited in defense of grown men who do not know them. A big reason that ENHA has fewer black engenes than they would is that at the start of their career, Heeseung got in a controversy for saying the N-word when singing along to a SZA song. The fandom was divided over whether he said it or not, but when people were calling for a statement, engenes all throughout the world - in "defense" of him - started being racist to fans, showed pictures of black people being hanged, etc. A lot of black fans went online to say that they didn't think Heeseung said the word, which I agree with, but the behavior of the fandom when it came to defending him was so disgusting that they don't want to be a part of a group that would do that - which I also agree with. I call myself an engene to make life easier for myself when describing how much I enjoy the group. I regularly keep up with them; I listen to and buy their music, keep up with discourse, and pay attention to every member individually, but I am very distant from other people in the fandom. This fandom has shown very repulsive behavior and will turn on anyone at the drop of a hat. While I wish Enha was able to speak up for themselves back then the way that they do now, they were a new group then and more monitored. This is merely some background on how the fandom acts, and this manner has shown in smaller instances too.
Every single person that was hateful towards Mina plays a part in her death, and they know as much. Which is why they are saying she's faking so it makes them feel better about themselves. Bullying is murder. Full Stop. A girl lost her life over a bouquet of flowers.
A lot goes into this, and I've talked about it before on my TikTok, but the infantilization of Asian men and the infantilization of Sunoo in particular is why people felt so comfortable sending a girl to her death for his "comfort". Sunoo is a grown man; every member of ENHYPEN is a grown man. They do not need 16-year-olds fighting for them. All of this energy and passion is never put towards any reputable cause.
Now the same people who bullied Mina are shifting the blame onto Ni-ki, citing his live as the reason all of the hate started. I want to put a stop to that sentiment right now - Ni-ki is not the reason people started hating on Mina; the reason people started hating on Mina is because those people have hate and jealousy in their hearts and used his live as a reason to direct that towards her. This will be one of the many times that Ni-ki is receiving hate from the fandom and one of the many times the people that are supposed to be rooting for him will use him as a punching bag and a way to redirect their anger and shame.
Mina was known by all members and remembered by Sunoo and Ni-ki due to her reputation of giving them flowers and being overall nice to them when she saw them. Anyone would be envious that the person they idolize doesn't know them but knows and recognises someone else. And that is no excuse.
There is no excuse for what happened. There is no valid reason for what happened. A girl lost her life over a bouquet of flowers that she bought out of love. Every person who sent hate to that girl is to blame for the outcome. Rest in peace, Mina. You should have lived longer.
